Waris Ahluwalia Becomes the Face of Gap

Waris Ahluwalia Becomes the Face of GapA community celebrates as Sardar Waris Ahluwalia becomes the face of Gap! The new campaign focuses on the clothing at hand, but we can’t help but to stop and celebrate a turban wearing man in the forefront!

The holiday campaign flanks 866 Gap retail stores Gap.com, and the company’s Facebook/Twitter pages. In the photo here, Ahluwalia poses with Quentin Jones – adding another layer of flavor and culture.

The world is chiming in on the excitement of a sardar in mainstream commercials and this has truly turned into an opportunity to unite brown people around the world!

Waris Ahluwalia is originally from the Amritsar, Punjab region. He and his family moved to New York when he was merely five years old. The NY life helped shape this Sardar icon in a fashion icon. Ahluwalia owns fashion company, House of Waris, which is driven by fine jewelry and scarves. Teh designer has collaborated with the likes of Maxfield, A.P.C., De Beers, Collette in Paris, and Benjamin Choo.

He designs, he models, he is an actor too! Waris Ahluwalia was seen in 2007 in Wes Anderson’s film The Darjeeling Limited. Ahluwalia also made an appearance in 2006 in Spike Lee’s film Inside Man alongside Denzel Washington. In this role, he defends his turban to those who make fun of it.

Waris Ahluwalia you make us proud. #SardarSwag all the way!
